Remote work and travel in FDE roles

“Remote” can describe where you work while still limiting the job to a state, region, or country.

What to confirm

“Remote” can describe where you work while still limiting the job to a state, region, or country. A bare remote label is not enough to show that the role can be done from anywhere in the US. Confirm the eligible work location, time zone, office expectations, and whether customer visits are part of the job.

Travel percentages in these buckets are treated as the posting’s stated maximum. They do not show the actual travel of the team or how often a particular customer requires a visit. Ask what travel looked like for the listed team, what triggers a trip, how much notice people receive, and whether the percentage includes conferences or customer delivery.

The FDE jobs list lets you compare listed postings. A Forward Deployed Engineer posting at Veeam Software is one employer example. It should not be used to infer a company-wide travel policy or a market-wide remote pattern.

If location is important to your decision, also check the employer’s original posting. Nextmove reads locations and working arrangements from the posting, and those details can change. Missing language means the condition is unknown, not that the job is remote, on-site, or travel-free.

565 of 2,197 postings (25.7%) record hybrid work.

The arrangement stated in each posting, not a company-wide policy. Remote can include location restrictions, travel or conflicting office language. Check the original terms.

Most postings say nothing about travel. Of the 910 that do, 632 state a maximum, and 551 cap it at 50% or less.

A band is the maximum share of time the posting states. A posting that names travel without a percentage is counted on its own line, because no frequency is converted into a percentage. Silence is unknown, not zero travel. Conflicting terms are also unknown.
