What the experience requirement tells you

FDE postings use different minimum experience requirements. Nextmove groups the stated minimum into four bands: Under 3 years, 3–5 years, 6–9 years, and 10 or more years. A fifth group contains postings where no usable experience number is stated.

These bands describe what the posting says about its minimum requirement. They do not describe the applicant's total experience, predict whether an employer will make an offer, or rank the responsibility of the job.

Compare the work before comparing the years

Years of experience and responsibility are separate parts of a posting. Nextmove reads responsibility level from the work described, while years of experience comes from the minimum stated by the employer. A posting asking for fewer than three years can still involve production work, customer contact, travel, or a specific technical background. A posting asking for ten or more years can describe senior individual-contributor work, technical leadership, or people management.

When you compare two postings in different bands, read the practical scope:

  • What will you build, deploy, or maintain?
  • Who uses the work, and how much direct customer contact is expected?
  • Does the role own production systems, integrations, evaluation, or ongoing operations?
  • Is the work individual-contributor, technical-lead, or people-management work?
  • What location, travel, coding, and salary terms apply to this posting?

The US posting data page shows how Nextmove separates stated years from its reading of responsibility, coding, project stage, travel, and work arrangement. Check the original employer posting for the terms of a specific job.

How to read each experience band

Under 3 years means the posting states a minimum of 0, 1, or 2 years. It can be an entry point, but the band does not establish that the role is junior or that the employer will train for every part of the work.

3–5 years means the posting states a minimum of 3, 4, or 5 years. Treat the band as one requirement among several. The jobs inside it can differ in production ownership, customer responsibility, and technical scope.

6–9 years means the posting states a minimum of 6, 7, 8, or 9 years. A higher stated minimum does not identify whether the role is a senior individual-contributor role, a technical leadership role, or a management role.

10 or more years means the posting states a minimum of at least 10 years. This requirement may narrow the pool, but it still does not describe the role's authority or the work an experienced person will do day to day.

Use the current FDE job list to compare the stated requirements with the responsibilities in each original employer posting. The experience requirements report explains how frequently those requirements appear.

What this comparison can and cannot answer

This comparison can show how employers state minimum experience requirements and how those groups are represented in the postings Nextmove tracks. It can help you choose which job details to compare when a years requirement differs.

It cannot establish a market salary for a level of experience, show employee compensation, or tell a candidate which band guarantees eligibility. Salary depends on the posting's pay definition, location, responsibility, and other terms. Check the original posting when comparing a specific role.
