About WellTheory

WellTheory is a digital health company helping people with autoimmune conditions take control of their health through personalized care, nutrition guidance, and ongoing coaching. We're a team of 60+ passionate people who care deeply about helping our members reduce symptoms, feel better, and live fuller lives — while helping employers and payors reduce their spend.

About the Role

WellTheory is looking for an Implementations Engineer to join our fully-remote team. This is a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a mission-driven company working to promote better health outcomes for people with autoimmune disease — owning how partner data flows into our platform and helping new employer, health plan, and channel partners go live quickly and reliably. You'll be our US-based technical owner for partner implementations. You likely have 3-5+ years of experience as a software engineer. Our current stack includes TypeScript, Node, Postgres, BigQuery, Dataform, and Terraform on GCP — though you don't need experience with every piece; we're confident an experienced engineer can ramp up quickly. We're looking for someone with strong software engineering fundamentals, strong written and verbal communication, and experience building and running data integrations in production. As a small team, we're all generalists who pick up new challenges — we want someone who can pick a problem and solve it. You'll report to Claire Rudolph, our CPO.

What You’ll Do

  • Own partner data onboarding: configure eligibility, census, and claims file specs in our ingestion platform, set up secure file transfer (SFTP, PGP), and validate each partner's first files
  • Work directly with new employer, health plan, and channel partners during implementation as their technical point of contact — collaborating hands-on to get each one live quickly and reliably
  • Monitor partner data feeds and resolve late, malformed, or failed files, including for partners whose contracts restrict data access to US-based staff
  • Configure and maintain partner reporting exports, and support eligibility verification and claims integrations (including our Stedi-based insurance billing) alongside our data and platform engineers
  • Turn repeated implementation work into configuration, automation, and playbooks so each new partner takes less effort than the last
  • Use AI tools to move faster and scale your impact as an individual contributor
  • Write clear documentation and runbooks so teammates on our fully-remote team can ramp up easily
  • Handle PHI with care, following HIPAA and each partner's contractual data-handling requirements
  • Take part in the team's support rotation for partner data issues

You Might Be a Great Fit If You...

  • Are customer-centric. You are singularly focused on customer needs throughout the entire software development life cycle.
  • Have built and run data integrations. You've worked with file-based data feeds (CSV, fixed-width, X12/EDI, or similar), SQL, and data pipelines, and you can quickly debug a partner's bad file.
  • Have handled sensitive data. You've worked with PHI or other regulated data and understand basics like minimum-necessary access and audit trails.
  • Are comfortable with partners' technical teams. You can walk a partner's IT team through file specs and error reports and keep a go-live on track.
  • Are a strong written communicator. Since we are a small team and fully remote, creating documentation to help others ramp up easily will be key.
  • Are battle-tested. You nerd out on building robust systems that help provide consistent value, and you have had to launch & maintain such systems in a production environment with real users for an extended period of time.
  • Can scale yourself. You’re skilled at using AI tools to augment your impact as an individual contributor.
  • Have deep empathy for the autoimmune experience. You don't need to have an autoimmune condition, but you can convey genuine understanding of the lived patient experience.
  • Have a beginner's mindset. You love learning, ask questions without fear of judgment, and stay open-minded about new approaches.
  • Are unreasonably relentless. You've been called a "force of nature" — persistence is your middle name.

This position requires current work authorization in the United States and that you live in and work from the United States, because some partner contracts require that only US-based staff access their data. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.

Bonus Points

  • You've worked in healthcare or really care about driving health outcomes in the autoimmune or women’s health space
  • You've worked with health plan eligibility (834), eligibility verification (270/271), or claims (837/835) data, or in an implementation or solutions engineering role

What We Offer

  • A team that genuinely cares about each other and the members we serve
  • A fully remote company that gathers every year for an annual retreat
  • A base salary range of $140,000 - $160,000 with meaningful equity and benefits. Placement within our range depends on directly relevant skills and experiences you bring to the role.
